Tutorial - Creating Clipping Paths with Photoshop cs
This tutorial shows you how to create a Clipping Path in Photoshop CS. A simple but powerful technique that allows you more control and freedom, when working with Pathed images in other DTP programmes such as Quark Xpress or InDesign.
1. Draw the Clipping Path
Open your image in Photoshop and before you do anything, examine the image to decide which Lasso tool to use (if any at all!).
If the section you want to Path has a distinct colour or shade from the background, you may find it easier and quicker to rely on the Magic Wand Tool (W). Otherwise, select the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) and draw around the edge of the section to be pathed, again, depending on the image, the Magnetic Lasso Tool may provide a quicker and more accurate method.
2. Create the Clipping Path
Now you should have a segment of your image selected with an outline in Photoshop.
Now we need to create the path by going to the Paths Tab (Window > Paths) and on the Palette options, do the following;
- "Make Work Path" Tolerance of 0.5 is fine.
- "Save Path" Give it a unique name.
- "Clipping Path" Selecting the unique name from the dropdown list.
That's it! Simple hey!
